FAQ
What is a Home Watch service?
A home watch service consists of regularly-scheduled check-ups of both the interior and exterior of unoccupied homes. Hill Top Home Watch's primary emphasis is ensuring their clients’ homes are secure and there are no issues with vandalism, water leaks, animal or bug infestations, snow/rain/storm damage, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning and heating, mold or various other concerns.
Why do I need a Home Watch service?
Leaving a home unattended for even short periods of time can be a dangerous thing. So many things can happen while you’re away: break-ins, vandalism, water line breaks, electrical problems, animal or insect damage, mold, storm damage, etc. Relying on a neighbor or relative to watch your home is risky and unfair to them. Hill Top Home Watch are your affordable professionals to give you peace of mind.
Why not have a neighbor watch my home?
Neighbors are great and usually free of charge, but most of them do not have the expertise to properly look over your home, which is a very large investment on your part. In most cases, neighbors will pick up the mail and newspaper, maybe take a quick look inside the home, and then watch the home from across the street. We use an extensive checklist to ensure that each potential issue can be detected before it becomes a major problem. We are available at all times, not only for regular check-ups but also for an emergency. Contrastingly, a homeowner never knows if their neighbor is going to be in town or on vacation. Our fees are a small price to pay for our clients to know their homes are being taken care of by trained and insured professionals.
Why Hill Top Home Watch
With years of experience running successful trade businesses as well as performing our own home remodeling work for years, we are trained when it comes to recognizing signs of potential issues on properties. We have also been thoroughly trained by The Home Watch Academy, featuring 15 hours of video training by a 20 year veteran in the home watch industry. Being local full-time residents of Beech Mtn, we are always just minutes away should an emergency issue arise also.
How often do I need someone to check on my home?
This is both a personal and an insurance issue. It is difficult to determine exactly how often someone should have their home checked on. If an issue arises, it is always best if it can be identified before it becomes a large problem. Most clients feel every two weeks is sufficient, but more or less will be determined by your specific situation.
Also, some insurance companies require someone to go over an unoccupied home once a week or three times per month. Other insurance companies do not have any such requirements. In order to see what requirements your insurance companies may have, please contact them to best determine the frequency of check-ups needed.
Why does the home need to be checked on regularly?
Things can happen fast in an unoccupied house. During the winter critters often look for a warm place to make their home, trees that have been standing for decades can suddenly be snapped in half in a mountain storm and once the temperatures start dropping in the Winter it can quickly create a number of problems in your home. Additionally many insurance companies will give you a discount if a home watch company visits regularly.
Who conducts the Home Watch check-ups?
Currently, all of your home watch check-ups will be done by Hill Top Home Watch owners, Michael & Ellen Martinez. In the event that we are not available, as we occasionally do take time off, we will have a highly-qualified associate perform the check-up.
Are you available 24/7?

How do I pay for your services?
We will email, or if you request, mail you an invoice at regular intervals. You can mail us a check at that time, we have online payment options at our website or we can make other arrangements if necessary.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, you can cancel any time for any reason and are provided a full refund for visits that have not been done yet. We only require a two weeks notice for sufficient time to replace your visitation slots.
Can I save money on my homeowner's insurance by using your services?
In some cases our clients do save on their home owners insurance premium. More importantly, there are cases when a claim is denied due to the lack of a home watch service. Please contact your home insurance provider for details.
Do you monitor service companies' work such as lawn care, pest control, contractor work, etc?
Absolutely, and any problems will be reported directly to you. We can put an extra set of eyes on completed work during our regular visits or you can schedule a special visit to do a final inspection or similiar as needed.
Does Hill Top Home Watch make repairs?
Typically not, if done, it will be at our discretion pending available time and experience in area needing service. In most cases, however, we can recommend a trusted professional who has the expertise in the area you’re having an issue with. For example, if a pipe bursts we can recommend a number of professional plumbers. At your request, we can let the vendor into your place to make the repairs and then come back and lock up. Or if you desire, we can stay in your house for the duration it takes the vendor to make the necessary repairs.
Can you provide referral services if I need work done at my home?
Yes. We have local contacts and resources to help you find the best service provider for your project.
